JR East, JR Hokkaido, and JR West are offering Shinkansen Office Cars, which allow web conferencing and calls from the seat, from November 22, 2022.
From March 20, this system will be renewed as “TRAIN DESK,” allowing passengers to purchase seats separately from regular reserved-car seats on all trains. In addition, the car number will be changed to No. 7 for Tohoku and Hokkaido Shinkansen trains and No. 9 for Joetsu and Hokuriku Shinkansen trains.
TRAIN DESK is a reserved seat on a standard train that also allows web conferencing and calls in the seat. It is available by purchasing a train ticket and a special reserved-seat express ticket for the train and section to be used. Currently, passengers need to purchase a reserved seat in Car 8 for the Hayabusa and Hayate trains, and a nonreserved seat express ticket or a reserved seat express ticket for any other train except Car 8 of the relevant train, but after the renewal, passengers will be able to purchase a designated seat for TRAIN DESK.
In addition, a set of remote work support tools such as Wi-Fi routers and folding partitions will be available for loan at Tokyo and Sendai stations.
