Weathernews will distribute information on heavy snowfall from January 24 to 26 in the “Heavy Snow Pinpoint” section of its Weathernews smartphone app.
The “Heavy Snow Pinpoint” function, which utilizes high-resolution snowfall forecast data, allows users to check snow accumulation forecasts up to three days ahead, forecasts of the impact of snow on rail, road, air and other transportation facilities, and forecasts of freezing road surfaces and water pipes on a city-by-city basis.
The strongest level of cold air in recent years will move southward from the 24th, and the Sea of Japan side of the country will require the utmost caution to avoid disasters caused by heavy snowfall. In the mountains of Hokuriku, around 100 cm of snow is expected to fall in one day, and even in urban areas, some snow will accumulate. 25th, temperatures will drop below freezing even in central Tokyo, so caution is needed to avoid icy roads and frozen water pipes.
