KDDI, Dezainkan, Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance, and MS&AD InterRisk Research Institute, in cooperation with Nihon Kotsu and Toyota Motor Corporation, will conduct a demonstration experiment to notify drivers of the presence of vehicles on public roads by utilizing location information from smartphones. The period is from February 1 to 28.
Based on GNSS-measured smartphone location data, we have developed a function that automatically notifies each driver’s smartphone when a bicycle, moped, and automobile approach the same intersection. The presence of bicycles, mopeds, and automobiles hidden in the blind spots of intersections can be detected in advance by each driver through safety-conscious notifications.
The demonstration will take place on a public road in Itabashi Ward, Tokyo. Dezainkan and Nihon Kotsu will use smartphones equipped with the same function in the course of their normal duties to verify the effectiveness and acceptability of the system in reducing accidents. Drivers will be given feedback on hazards after driving to support driving guidance.
