The Government of Thailand has identified the following issues with the Bangkok Metropolitan Area Railway Master Plan (M-MAP), which is the basis for the various urban railroad projects currently being implemented and planned in the Bangkok metropolitan area: accuracy of demand forecasts, connectivity with stations, routes, and other transportation modes, and promotion of integration of urban railroad and urban development plans. In addition, a new master plan (M-MAP2) is planned for the future, including a plan for the development of new routes. Under these circumstances, the Japanese government has been supporting the Department of Railways of the Ministry of Transport of Thailand in formulating a detailed plan for M-MAP2, but it still lacks experience in building a railroad demand forecasting model, which is an issue, and continuous support is needed.
This cooperation will strengthen the Thai government’s capacity to formulate a railroad master plan and contribute to the development of a sustainable and comprehensive transportation network by providing support for demand forecasting and M-MAP2 detailed planning based on the new railroad demand forecasting model of the Thai government.
