Travel report on the Queen Elizabeth “Sydney to Melbourne 3-day” press tour organized by Cunard Line; in this third installment, we introduce the activities we participated in, dinner and lunch.
A day of sailing with dinner, shows, cocktail bar and eating and drinking
As mentioned in the previous article, Queen Elizabeth has a specific main dining room available for each room type. On this cruise, which was in the standard “Britannia” category, we had dinner both times at the Britannia Restaurant.
The Britannia Restaurant is located at the very back of the ship, aft. We had been reserved a seat by the window, so we had a romantic moment while watching the ship’s wake and the land moving away behind it. This is another extraordinary experience that can only be had on a boat trip. Incidentally, the dress code was “smart attire” as it was after the departure party. Men wore jackets and women wore cocktail dresses, suits, and dresses.
Dinner is a course meal consisting of appetizer, soup, main dish, dessert, coffee & petit fours. There are four choices of appetizers, main course, and dessert, and two choices of soups. Each table is served by a dedicated waiter, and the small conversation is a pleasant memory.
Tipping is a concern, but on the Queen Elizabeth, it is not necessary to tip restaurant staff or stateroom attendants on a case-by-case basis. For example, in the case of the Britannia Restaurant, it is US$11.50 per person per day multiplied by the number of nights spent on the ship.
After a leisurely dinner, we will go to the Royal Court Theater to see a show. The location is on the bow side of the ship, so we moved from the very back of the ship to the very front. As we walked along the corridors and rode the elevators, the feeling of being on a ship faded away, and I felt almost the same as if I were in a hotel.
The day featured an original show called “Hollywood Night” performed by Royal Cunard singers and dancers. The show is billed as “a journey from the past to the 21st century to experience the history of Hollywood movies,” and it was full of nostalgic movie music! The show was full of nostalgic movie music, which was performed by a live orchestra.
