Long-established ryokan in Hiroshima renewed as Ryokan Onomichi Nishiyama. Total of 11 rooms in traditional detached building and new building with ocean view.

There are a total of 11 guest rooms in six buildings: eight “detached” rooms and three “new” rooms. The rooms in the “detached house” are historic guest rooms where wealthy merchants and members of the royal family have stayed. The historic guest rooms were moved to this location by a drawn boat, and were renovated with beds and water facilities. All rooms in the new building have ocean views. Experts assisted in this renovation and categorized the traditional designs and materials into “those to be kept” and “those to be repaired”.

Separate guest rooms

Morning Sun Room The only one in the facility with a living room that has a view of the entire garden from the view window. The bedroom is a Hollywood twin type with beds next to each other, and can accommodate up to two people. The room is a harmony of Japanese and Western styles.

Sakura-no-Ma A Hollywood twin-type bedroom with a living room with a spacious sofa in front of a large weeping cherry tree and beds next to each other. Two sets of futons can be laid out on the tatami mats to accommodate up to four people.

Straw house with thatched roof brought in by “pulling boat”. It has an open tatami floor where you can feel the garden, and the beds are made as liwood twin type with beds next to each other. By laying out two sets of futons on the tatami mats, a maximum of four people can stay in the room.

Matsukaze: A tatami floor that allows guests to feel closer to the garden. These are Hollywood twin-type rooms with beds next to each other, but can accommodate up to four people by laying out two sets of futons on the tatami mats.

Kiri-no-Ma (Paulownia Room) An old-fashioned Japanese-style room with an open-air bath and an indoor hinoki bath. Because the rooms are close to the ocean, you can feel the scent of the ocean and the echoes of the tides. In spring, you can also enjoy the wisteria trellis in the garden. The lack of a bed allows the room to be spacious enough to accommodate up to four persons. The room can also be connected to the Ume-no-Ma room.

Hearing Tao Pavilion It has a tea ceremony room and is located one step away from the garden. This Hollywood twin-type room can accommodate up to four people by laying out two sets of futons.

Ume-no-Ma An old-folk-house style room with an open-air bathtub with a feather kettle and an indoor bath. It is a Hollywood twin type and can accommodate a maximum of two persons. A space to relax after bathing is also provided. Can be connected to the Paulownia Room.
