Sekisui House and Marriott International have set June 21 as the opening date for The Ritz-Carlton, Fukuoka (2-6-50 Daimyo, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture). This will be the sixth hotel under the brand in Japan, following Osaka, Tokyo, Okinawa, Kyoto, and Nikko, and the first to open in Kyushu.
The hotel will be located within Fukuoka Daimyo Garden City, which was constructed as part of the “Tenjin Big Bang” project underway in Fukuoka City. The 111-meter-high, 25-story building will have the hotel entrance and Arrival Lobby on the first floor, a wedding chapel and banquet hall on the third floor, and the main hotel lobby on the 18th floor. The dining area will be a condensed version of The Lobby Lounge & Bar, where cocktails can be enjoyed, and a café offering afternoon tea and take-out menus.
The 19th to 23rd floors will feature 147 guest rooms and 20 suites, all over 50m2, while the 24th floor will feature a club lounge, spa, gym, swimming pool, and a bar overlooking the night view of Hakata Bay.
The interior design of the facility was created by LAYAN Architects + Designers, based in Melbourne, Australia. The design was inspired by Hakata-ori, one of the three generations of Japanese textiles designated as a national traditional craft, and the idea of spinning and “weaving” threads to form a story that connects the entire hotel.
