The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Grant Agreement (G/A) with the Government of the Republic of the Philippines on February 27 in Manila for a grant of up to 2,052 million yen for the “Metro Cebu Water District Sludge Management Project.
This project aims to promote household sludge treatment in Metro Cebu (the second largest metropolitan area in the Philippines, consisting of 7 cities and 6 towns including Cebu City) in the central Philippines by supporting the construction of a putrefactive sludge treatment facility, the introduction of sludge collection vehicles, and the establishment of an operational system for sludge treatment in the Metro Cebu Water District. This will contribute to the improvement of water and sanitation pollution in the region, thereby contributing to Goal 6 of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), which is to provide safe water and toilets worldwide.
