Sagami Railway and Tokyu Corporation will open the Shin-Yoko Gateway Spot, a waiting room at Shin-Yokohama Station on the Sotetsu/Tokyu Shin-Yokohama Line, which opens on March 18 and serves as a gateway to the Sotetsu Line/Tokyu Line/Central Japan and Kansai region, on March 25.
The interior design, under the supervision of Trough Architects, a firm associated with the local community, was inspired by the image of an exchange center where the lives of people living along the Sotetsu and Tokyu lines and in the Chubu-Kansai area intersect. Materials symbolic of each company’s history were used, including bricks used in Sagami Railway’s “Design Brand Up Project,” “Ekimoku,” scrap wood from Tokyu Corporation’s station buildings, and “Tokaido Shinkansen recycled aluminum” from JR Tokai.
In the waiting room, there are signage displays that provide regional information on the Sotetsu and Tokyu lines, direct connections, and the Chubu and Kansai regions. The station also features Japan’s first 50W wireless recharging spot in a station building and “root C,” an AI café robot, the first at Sagami Railway and the third at Tokyu Corporation.
In addition, events will be held in the station for a limited period until June 30. As the first project, goods commemorating the opening of the Sotetsu/Tokyu Shin-Yokohama Line will be sold from March 22 to March 25.
