In Nepal, the population growth rate is high, especially in urban areas, and the maintenance of water supply and other facilities has not fully kept pace with population growth. The water supply sector in Nepal is divided into three areas: Kathmandu, the capital city; major cities in rural areas; and regional cities and rural areas, with each organization responsible for water supply services. NWSC faces operational challenges, such as the slow training of young staff, lack of policies and systems for human resource development, issues related to water tariff setting, and technical challenges such as 24-hour continuous water supply, accurate data-based understanding of non-revenue water, and water quality management.
This cooperation will contribute to the improvement of water supply services in the NWSC by establishing methods to improve the operation and maintenance capacity of water supply facilities and the capacity to collect water charges throughout Nepal, as well as by strengthening planning capacity and developing an organized training system to improve water charge collection for the entire NWSC. The NWSC will contribute to the improvement of water supply services in the NWSC by developing the infrastructure for the improvement of water supply services in the NWSC.
