Tochigi Nyugyo “Kanto, Tochigi Lemon
This dairy beverage was born shortly after the end of World War II in the Showa era, when sweet foods were precious. It has been popularly known as “lemon milk,” a soul drink that Tochigi Prefecture is proud of.
Kanto Milk, the original manufacturer at that time, went out of business in 2004, but Tochigi Dairy, headquartered in Tochigi City, took over everything from the recipe to the design of the paper packs to keep the tradition alive and revived it.
Raw milk from Tochigi Prefecture is mixed with sugar and lemon flavoring for a simple taste. However, since there is no actual fruit juice in the milk, it is also called “lemon-flavored milk. It tastes even better when drunk cold, just like fruit milk after a hot spring bath.
