Chiyoda City and Chiyoda City Tourism Association will hold “Chiyoda no Sakura Matsuri (Cherry Blossom Festival)” at Chidorigafuchi, one of the most famous cherry blossom viewing spots in Tokyo. The period is from March 24 to April 4.

On the evening of the 24th, one of the highlights of the festival, the lighting ceremony of the “Night Cherry Blossom Lighting” was held in the presence of Chiyoda Ward Mayor Takaaki Higuchi, Chiyoda Ward Tourism Association Chairman Ryuta Fujii, and guest of honor Tadashi Sakurai, Chairman of the Chiyoda Ward Assembly.

Higuchi, the representative of the organizer, said, “The cherry blossoms are in full bloom today, and it is wonderful. I hope you will enjoy the atmosphere of the former Edo Castle and the Imperial Palace and the afterglow of spring.

Unfortunately, the ceremony was held in the rain, but the Someiyoshino cherry trees along the 700-meter-long Chidorigafuchi Greenway and the moat on the other side (Kitanomaru Park side) were at their best.

As many onlookers watched, Higuchi, the district mayor, and others pressed the switch to light the lanterns to the countdown call, and the entire area was illuminated in a fantastic display of color.

The nighttime illumination of the cherry blossoms will be held every day from sunset (around 6:00 p.m.) to 10:00 p.m. during the festival period. LED bulbs, which are environmentally friendly, are used so as not to put a burden on the cherry trees along the greenway, and solar power is partially utilized to reduce power consumption.

In addition, to prevent infection and reduce congestion, a special website for the Cherry Blossom Festival in Chiyoda will provide real-time information on congestion using AI cameras.
