Sekisui House and Marriott International opened the Fairfield by Marriott Kagoshima Tarumizu Sakurajima hotel (2058-2 Hamadaira, Tarumi City, Kagoshima Prefecture) on April 12, adjacent to Tarumizu Hamabira, a roadside station in Tarumi City, Kagoshima Prefecture.
Fairfield by Marriott is part of the Trip Base Michi-no-Eki Project, which aims to create local communities based on roadside stations. From the hotel, guests can enjoy activities such as SUP and canoeing in Kinko Bay, where Sakurajima spreads out before their eyes, canyoning in Sarugajo Canyon, and access by ferry to Yakushima Island with its ancient cedar forests.
The hotel specializes in overnight stays and does not have a restaurant inside the building. It aims to revitalize the local economy by utilizing local stores, including roadside stations, for meals and souvenirs.
