G-SQUAD, G-SHOCK’s sports line, DW-H5600 with heart rate measurement function in a compact form

Casio Computer Co., Ltd. announced the DW-H5600 from G-SQUAD, the sports line of G-SHOCK.

The new G-Shock, celebrating its 40th anniversary since its launch in 1983, aims to be a model that can be enjoyed in new lifestyles while maintaining the traditional 5600 form from the first generation. The concept is “normal evolution,” and while maintaining a shape that fits comfortably on the wrist, the new model is equipped with a smartphone link function, a heart rate measurement function using an optical sensor, and a step count measurement function.

In order to provide a variety of functions without changing the compact size, the battery was made smaller and the LCD slimmer. In addition to activities such as run, walk, etc., the device also offers lifestyle-oriented functions such as incoming call notifications and sleep measurement. When we actually touched the watch, we found that although it has a variety of functions, it is lightweight and comfortable to wear while sleeping. The screen is an MIP LCD with a full-dot digital display for high visibility.

Solar cells are placed around the LCD to provide solar-assisted time display. Training and smart functions are supported by USB charging, but the time display can be powered only by solar charging even when the battery charge is low. When the watch is operated without solar charging from the time of full recharging, it can be used for up to approximately 35 hours when the activity function is used, and up to approximately one month when heart rate measurement is turned off. The bezel and band are made of newly developed biomass plastic, indicating that the watch is also environmentally friendly.

The “CASIO WATCHES” application can be used to make all kinds of settings.

It is available in four colors, two metal bezel models and two urethane bezel models. In addition, a special box with interchangeable bezels and bands is also available. The main body is printed with drafting lines inspired by drawings of the first BW-5000. The interchangeable bezel and band feature colorful designs of the module wiring diagrams, allowing users to enjoy a total of eight different styles by combining them. The packaging also features a layout of the drawings and is made of recycled paper.
