To ensure that our beloved Hawaii remains “Paradise Hawaii” for many years to come. Responsible Tourism is the concept of creating a better tourist destination by encouraging each visitor to take responsibility for his or her own awareness and actions. Malama Hawaii (Caring for Hawaii) is the Hawaii version of the Responsible Tourism slogan. The Hawaii Tourism Authority’s special website lists five actions that visitors should take in preparation for becoming a responsible tourism practitioner. When encountering marine animals, do not approach them unnecessarily

Do not use sunscreens with harmful ingredients

Remove mud from soles of shoes when visiting forests

Do not trespass into restricted areas

Bring your own eco-bag, bottle, straw, etc. Using sunscreen that does not damage coral and carrying your own eco-bag and bottle to reduce plastic waste are all things that can be done with a little effort. It is not about “everyone else seems to be doing it, but I’m fine with it. In Hawaii, the word “pono” means “good, moral, and righteous,” and a pono traveler is a traveler who is able to do the right thing. The Hawaii Tourism Authority invites you to become a Pono Traveler who practices Responsible Tourism. Keep this message from the Hawaii Tourism Authority in mind and enjoy your next trip to Hawaii. Just by choosing a sunscreen with the “Reef safe” label, you are a Pono Traveler! The oceans are connected, and I hope you will bring this awareness not only to Hawaii, but also to Japan, which is surrounded by the oceans.

JTB’s Malama Hawaii Connecting Caring for Hawaii’s Future JTB’s special “Malama Hawaii” website introduces a variety of initiatives under the title “What JTB can do to help build Hawaii’s future. The “Weed Picking in the Taro Field” experience, which was held to better understand the spirit of Malama, is also interesting.
