Moomin Valley Park (327-6 Miyazawa, Hanno City, Saitama Prefecture), operated by Moomin Story, will open “Moomin Valley Asobino Hiroba,” an indoor experience facility where children can enjoy themselves enthusiastically, on April 28.
At a press preview held prior to the event, Kumiko Ito, President of Moomin Monogatari, explained the concept and background of the facility.
Moomin Valley Park opened in March 2019 as the world’s first facility where you can meet the Moomins year-round, based on the theme of life in Northern Europe. As various changes in lifestyles have been brought about after the Corona Disaster, the concept of “well-being,” which aims to promote physical and mental health and happiness, is becoming more prevalent.
The company is undergoing a phased renewal of its facilities in order to provide visitors with a better experience of this wellbeing through Scandinavian education and the characters of the fairy tale “Moomin”.
The newly opened “Moomin Valley Adventure Plaza” is the first of its kind. Under the supervision of Bonelund, a long-established children’s educational toy company, part of the third floor of Cochems, an indoor exhibition facility in the park, has been renovated to introduce playground equipment and programs that allow visitors to enjoy learning while playing.
The plaza consists of three areas based on the motif of the Moomin world, the first of which is themed around the ship “Sea Orchestra” that appears in the novel “Memories of Moominpappa. Visitors can jump, swim, and dive into the sea of balls, relaxing their whole body with a comfortable floating sensation and strengthening their sense of balance.
The second area, “Moomin Valley Sky Tracks,” is based on the cloud-riding scene in the novel “Tanoshii Moomin Kazoku. The children develop resilience through movements such as bumping, jumping, and rolling on the air-filled elastic floor surface and walls.
The third area is “Moran’s Korokoro Wheel,” which is based on the ice created by Moran, another character in the Moomin stories, where visitors can safely enter a large 360-degree rotating wheel and enjoy free movement using their entire body.
The use of the plaza is 300 yen per person for both children and adults (30 minutes).
While Moomin Valley Park is blessed with a rich natural environment of forests and lakes, “during bad weather such as rain, snow, and typhoons, visitors cannot get the same experience as on a sunny day.
The new facility, “Moomin Valley Adventure Plaza,” will solve this problem and “allow children and parents to experience a high quality of wellbeing regardless of weather conditions,” said President Ito. MOOMIN CHARACTERS in Finland, the home country of the Moomins, is also committed to this project, which will be renewed and further enhanced with a second and third phase after the summer.
