Sanyo Expressway and other roads will be closed May 18-22 due to the G7 Hiroshima Summit. There will be a toll adjustment for those who take the expressway as a detour.

Posted on 2023-05-13 by Editor in Chief

NEXCO West Japan is calling for caution during detours regarding traffic restrictions on expressways (May 18-22) in conjunction with the G7 Hiroshima Summit.

During the period, the following expressways in the service area of NEXCO West Japan Chugoku Branch will be closed by the police.

E2 Sanyo Expressway Hongo IC – Kuga IC

E74 Hiroshima Expressway, Hiroshima JCT to Hiroshima Saikaze-shinto IC

E31 Hiroshima-Kure Road, Niho JCT to Kure IC (all lines)

*Outside the jurisdiction, Hiroshima Expressway Lines 1-3 (all lines), Kaida Bridge (all lines), between Grand Prince Hotel Hiroshima and Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, etc.

All SA and PA facilities and equipment within the road closure zone will be closed. Entry from the public road side and smart IC will also be closed at the start of the main road closure, and will not be available.

On the E2A Chugoku Expressway, which is a detour route, SAs and PAs are expected to be congested, so it is necessary to refrain from parking for long periods of time, to spread out use, to take breaks well in advance, and to refuel early if using a gas station.

In addition, when using the E54 Onomichi Expressway (free section) to connect to the expressway, the expressway tolls will be adjusted to avoid premiums if the following conditions are met.

Date and time: May 18, 2023 8:00 a.m. – May 22, 2023 24:00 p.m.

Eligible vehicles: Vehicles that once exited at the designated IC and re-entered the expressway in the same direction from the designated re-entry IC using the E54 Onomichi Expressway (all types of vehicles regardless of ETC or cash).

Applicable section: E2: Sanyo Expressway, Onomichi JCT and eastward to E2A: Chugoku Expressway, Miyoshi Higashi JCT and westward to each IC.

For the latest information on traffic regulations, please check the official page of the Hiroshima Prefectural Police.
