Garmin Japan will release the Instinct 2X from its Instinct 2 outdoor GPS watch series on May 12.

The Instinct series boasts ruggedness that meets MIL-STD-810 (heat, shock, and water resistant) standards set by the U.S. Department of Defense, while also aiming to enhance the functions of a full-fledged smartwatch.

The new “Instinct 2X” series maintains the toughness of its predecessors, but with a larger, easier-to-read 1.1-inch display and a light weight of only 67g. The standard “Instinct 2X Dual Power” (68,200 yen) and the military-grade “Instinct 2X Dual Power Tactical Edition” (75,900 yen) will be offered.

All models are equipped with solar charging, which allows for unlimited operation in smartwatch mode and a total of approximately 145 hours in GPS mode. A power manager is also included to maximize battery life by changing settings based on usage.

GPS performance has also been further enhanced, with GNSS multi-band compatibility to provide accurate location information even in environments where signal reception is difficult or in areas with many obstructions. In addition, all models are equipped with a flashlight, which can be used as a light in dark places or as an SOS signal in case of emergency.

Health monitoring functions include the unique Body Battery, which visualizes heart rate, stress level, and remaining body energy, as well as blood oxygen tracking and sleep score, to help manage daily health and check physical condition during activities. Sports activity functions include running, cycling, and strength training, as well as a full range of outdoor activities. More than 30 types of activities are supported, including mountain climbing, golf, surfing, windsurfing, SUP, cross-country, MTB, skiing, snowboarding, fishing, and hunting.

The “Instinct 2X Dual Power” will be available in white and red, while the “Instinct 2X Dual Power Tactical Edition” will be available in white and green for wearing night vision goggles.

To commemorate the release of Instinct 2X, a campaign will also be held in which customers can win gifts by purchasing the product, answering questionnaires, and posting on SNS. The campaign will run from May 12 to July 31.
