On May 12 (local time), U.S.-based Princess Cruises announced that its second new Sphere-class ship will be named Star Princess.
Star Princess, currently under construction at the Ficantieri shipyard in Italy, is the largest ship in the history of Princess Cruises, along with Sun Princess, the first ship in the Sphere class, with a gross weight of 175,500 tons and a passenger capacity of 4,300, and will be powered by LNG (liquefied natural gas) and equipped with state-of-the-art technology called The ship is fueled by LNG (liquefied natural gas), and also features the state-of-the-art “Medallion” service.
The ship is approximately 20% larger than existing cruise ships and will feature The Dome entertainment facility, a next-generation piazza with a distinctive glass sphere shape, the Princess Arena, the main theater with high-performance technology, and a magnificent dining room located aft.
It also features new stateroom categories, the Reserve Collection and Signature Collection, as well as luxurious suites with dynamic views of the ocean outside the ship.
The ship will launch on August 4, 2025, with a Mediterranean cruise. It will include a 10-day Italy and Greece excursion, a 10- to 11-day Italy coastal port of call, and a Europe cruise, which will go on sale June 1.
