On May 3, a baby woolly monkey was born at Yokohama Zoo Zoorasia (1175-1 Kamishirane-cho, Asahi-ku, Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture). This is the first mating in 17 years at the zoo.
Open to the public until May 31st, where mothers and children can be seen from 9:30 to 11:30 each day.
A nickname contest is also being held until the same day. The three candidates are “yerba mate,” which is derived from yerba mate tea in South America, its habitat, “chamomile,” which is in season in May and is also used as a tea, and “tahibo,” which is native to South America where it lives and is also drunk as a tea.
The candidate with the most votes will be chosen as the nickname and announced in the park and on the official website.
