The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Record of Discussions (R/D) with the National Livestock Quality and Hygiene Organization of the Republic of Paraguay on May 16, in Asunción, regarding the technical cooperation project “Livestock Hygiene Measures and Improvement of Animal Origin Food Testing Services Project. The project was signed by the National Livestock Quality and Sanitation Organization of the Republic of Paraguay.
In Paraguay, the livestock industry is one of the major industries, and while demand for animal-derived foods, especially beef, is growing, the inspection capacity and data management capability to ensure food safety is insufficient, and the safety inspection system for animal-derived foods is weak.
This project will strengthen the Paraguayan National Livestock Quality and Hygiene Organization by improving its capacity for safety inspection and supervision of animal-derived food products, efficiently analyzing, managing, and sharing safety inspection data, and providing guidance on the proper use of veterinary drugs. Through this project, we will contribute to the improvement of livestock health and the provision of quality food hygiene services in Paraguay, and contribute to SDG Goals 2 (zero hunger) and 3 (health and welfare for all).
