My Favorite Travel Goods] Garmin GPS Watch with Solar Charging Support and Long Battery Life

Posted on 2023-06-02 by Editor in Chief

The world is overflowing with travel goods, but it would be a waste to select them based solely on price and design. If you ask the person in charge of the manufacturer about their planning concept, you may discover new charms.

Garmin Japan released the Instinct 2X Dual Power, a GPS watch with solar charging support and long battery life, on May 12. We interviewed Ms. Kie Goto, Product Marketing, Marketing Department, Garmin Japan, about the aim of the development.

–What is the story behind the development of the product?

Goto: The “Instinct 2” series is a tough GPS watch that is loved by people who enjoy outdoor activities such as mountain climbing and running. The new “Instinct 2X Dual Power” has a larger display (5mm larger than the previous model), solar charging, and a longer battery life. This model allows you to enjoy your activities even under the toughest conditions.

–what features do they have?

Goto: This is a tough smartwatch that has passed the U.S. Department of Defense MIL standard MIL-STD-810 durability test. In addition to notification and health management functions, the watch is equipped with more than 30 sports apps to record activities such as running, cycling, mountain climbing, and SUP.

–What are the points of particular interest?

Goto: For the first time in the “Instinct” series, the “GNSS Multi-band” has been incorporated to further improve GPS accuracy. The ability to receive multiple global navigation satellite systems and multiple frequency bands allows for more accurate location information, even in buildings and forests. This is a must-have feature for those who use the activity function.

–What kind of people would you like to see use the product?

Goto: With solar charging and a long battery life of 140 hours in GPS mode, it is recommended for mountain climbers on long traverses and for those who challenge themselves with ultra-runs. It can be used without a charger while traveling as it eliminates the need to recharge the battery. It is also recommended for those who are not used to hassle.

–Thank you very much.
