On May 26, Vice President Junichi Yamada met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Salmxai Khommasit, in Tokyo.
At the beginning of the meeting, Vice President Yamada mentioned the results of JICA’s projects in Laos, including wind power generation projects, human resource development support, and infrastructure projects, as well as future developments. He also expressed his expectations for further deepening cooperation between the two countries in order to promote further development of Laos and strengthen ASEAN ties.
In response, Deputy Prime Minister Sarmsai expressed his gratitude for JICA’s contribution to Laos, saying that Japan’s ODA and JICA’s efforts have supported good relations between the two countries and built mutual understanding and trust.
The two sides also exchanged views on the development of cooperation for financial stabilization and connectivity enhancement, and confirmed that they will continue to work closely together toward the important milestone of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Laos in 2025.
