Kyoto City Tourist Association to sell tickets for Gion Matsuri “Yamahoko-Junko” on June 6. General seats 4,100 yen, etc.

Posted on 2023-06-03 by Editor in Chief

The Kyoto City Tourism Association (DMO KYOTO) will release spectator tickets for the Gion Festival Yamahoko Junko at 10:00 a.m. on June 6.

The Yamaboko Junko (float procession) is held on July 17 (Mae-matsuri) and July 24 (Goto-matsuri) during the month-long Gion Festival, which begins on July 1. Several floats decorated with embroideries, imported fabrics and other gorgeous ornaments parade along Shijo Dori, Kawaramachi Dori and Oike Dori to purify the path of the portable shrines.

This year, a new type of seating has been added to the regular seats and the Manabi Seats (with earphone commentary), each of which allows visitors to reserve a front-row seat. This will allow visitors to get up close and personal with the procession of Yamahoko floats, which is also called a “moving museum.
