HIS Mobile’s “Trip SIM” available in more than 120 countries

Posted on 2023-06-09 by Editor in Chief

HIS Mobile launched Trip SIM, a data communication service for international travelers, on June 6. Initially, only eSIM will be available, but in July, plastic SIM will also be selectable.

The service covers more than 120 countries around the world, with touring plans available for North America, Asia, and Europe. Fees vary by region and start at 429 yen (1 GB/day).

Hidetomo Inokoshi, President of H.I.S. Mobile, said that as of April, the number of foreign visitors to Japan had recovered to 66.6% of the 2019 level, and the number of Japanese traveling overseas had recovered to 33.6% of the 2019 level, and that the congestion at passport application offices in Tokyo and other factors indicate that overseas travel during summer vacation is expected to be brisk. The new service will be launched to coincide with this recovery.

He said, “In the past, we have often offered either eSIM or plastic SIM, but with Trip SIM, we can offer both. You can choose the number of days of use and data capacity in detail,” he said, appealing his company’s service.

Based on the domain name and service site credits, it appears that the base is One Stop Innovation HR’s Kimochi eSIM, but according to him, there are differences in the pricing structure.

The company also offers a mobile Wi-Fi router rental service called “HIS Wi-Fi,” but while HIS Wi-Fi is intended for use by a family or multiple people, Trip SIM meets the needs of those who want to use only data communication at a low price while using voice roaming with their original SIM. With eSIM, you can start using the service on the spot even after traveling abroad, eliminating the need for a mobile router and the delivery of plastic SIM cards.
