Enjoy the local atmosphere at the Sunday morning farmers’ market The next day, I got up early again to visit the HOTA Farmers’ and Artisan Market. HOTA stands for “Home Of The Arts,” and is an iconic place on the Gold Coast that connects art, entertainment, and culture to everyday life. The area is home to a movie theater, a theater, a large lawn, and a pond where you can play in the water. The Farmer’s Market is held every Sunday from 6:00 to 11:30 a.m. at this location. The market features a variety of booths selling locally grown seasonal produce, bread, honey, processed meats and spices, fresh flowers, and more. And of course, there were plenty of food stalls where you could eat on the spot. “Wow – so much fun! If I lived on the Gold Coast, I’d come here every week!” I thought to myself as I made my rounds with an iced latte from the coffee stand in hand, but time passed quickly and I was in a big hurry to buy a bagel sandwich and have breakfast. This time I bought some dukkah, an Arabic spice, at a store that sells spices and beans by weight. At home, I enjoy it Aussie style by sprinkling it on my avocado open toast.
Contemporary Pop Art at HOTA Gallery After enjoying breakfast and shopping at the Farmer’s Market, we headed to the nearby HOTA Gallery to see “POP MASTERS,” on view through June 4. I was drawn into the bold and bright world of Pop Art at HOTA Gallery’s first major international exhibition, which brought together a collection of works by world-famous artists such as Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Contemporary pop art is a perfect fit for the Gold Coast. Gallery stores are always a pleasure to visit. The museum store at the HOTA Gallery is no exception, and the space is so attractive and stimulating that I found myself loosening my purse strings (although I had to pay by credit card). One of the writers who accompanied me bought four original tote bags! The accessories and other knick-knacks were especially cute.
