JR West, Keifuku Bus, Fukui Bank, Fukui Capital & Consulting, Quaras, and JR West Innovations will begin developing and introducing the XR Bus to the Fukui area for sightseeing tours.

The Hokuriku Shinkansen will open in Fukui and Tsuruga in the spring of 2024, and the companies will bring together their resources and technologies to revitalize tourism and transportation by making the most of Fukui’s nature, culture, and history. The service is scheduled to start in the summer of the same year.

The sightseeing excursion type XR Bus will mainly operate one-way between JR Fukui Station and major sightseeing spots in Fukui Prefecture, offering excursion tours in combination with existing means of transportation. The bus is operated by Keifuku Bus. The attraction of Fukui will be embodied in a combination of real and digital elements, such as augmented reality superimposed on the scenery from the train windows and virtual reality images related to tourist attractions.

In addition, the company is also considering providing on-board guidance equipment for foreign tourists, as well as chartered service.
