On June 9, the Metropolitan Expressway held a press opening of the Daishi Bridge (Ota-ku, Tokyo to Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture) site on the No. 1 Haneda Line, where bridge renewal work is underway.
The No. 1 Haneda Line was closed between the Haneda Line Heiwajima Entrance and Tokai JCT and the Yokohane Line Daishi Entrance for two weeks from May 27, 5:00 a.m. to June 10, 5:00 a.m. today is the day before the road closure was lifted. During this period, unstable weather conditions continued, including the approach of Typhoon No. 2, but as mentioned in previous articles, the main work is almost completed.
Masayuki Morohashi, Director General of the Metropolitan Expressway Renewal and Construction Bureau, reported that the work to replace the Expressway Daishi Bridge was almost complete, saying, “We have completed the work as scheduled and expect to lift the road closure at 5:00 a.m. tomorrow. He continued, “First of all, we would like to express our deepest apologies to our customers using the Metropolitan Expressway, users of the surrounding streets, and residents in the surrounding area for the great inconvenience and trouble we have caused.
Takayuki Noami, Director of the Project Promotion Department (Kanagawa and Saitama Districts), Renewal and Construction Bureau, then gave an update on the status of construction implementation.
After the bridge was closed to traffic on June 27, preparations were made to cut both ends of the existing bridge and slide it in place. After that, the piers were aligned, welded, connected to the existing bridge, and pavement and demarcation lines were installed, with inspections to be conducted on June 8.
The construction work closed the road for as long as two weeks, and as a result, “traffic congestion occurred mainly on the Bayshore Route,” and although the estimated time between Daikoku JCT and Ukishima JCT was 40 minutes (usually 30 minutes), the actual time was up to 45 minutes, and from Kasai IC to Airport Chuo IC, which is in the opposite direction, the estimated time was 60 minutes (usually 30 minutes), but it took 50 minutes. As for the general roads, “increased traffic congestion was observed on the industrial roads and Daiichi Keihin (National Route 15) due to the concentration of traffic,” according to the company.
Nobuhiro Maeda, President and Representative Director of Metropolitan Expressway, also commented on the termination of the road closure due to the construction in a news release.
The closure of the No. 1 Haneda Route due to the “Expressway Daishi Bridge Replacement Work,” which began on Saturday, May 27, is scheduled to be lifted on Saturday, June 10, as scheduled, since the replacement work is almost complete. During the period of the closure, the Metropolitan Expressway and the general roads in the vicinity of the closed section were more congested than usual, causing great inconvenience to our customers and to those who use the general roads in the vicinity of the closed section.
We will continue to contribute to the creation of a prosperous and comfortable society by providing safe and reliable expressways to our customers and connecting people, towns, and lifestyles in the Tokyo metropolitan area through the “Metropolitan Expressway Renewal Project” and other initiatives.
This is because they are constantly updating the bridge to incorporate the latest technology. The new bridge section should make it easier to drive in the rain.
