On June 13, the Fukuoka Branch of JAF (Japan Automobile Federation) called for caution as the number of cases of cats getting into car engine compartments increases during the rainy season.
Kittens born in the spring become active in June, and there were 284 cases nationwide (in June 2022) where JAF road service was requested due to cats entering the engine compartment. Compared to the January survey of the same year (21 cases), this is 13.5 times higher. Of the 284 cases in June, 51 were in Fukuoka, the largest number in Japan.
The company recommends that, although tapping the engine compartment area of a car to confirm the presence of a cat (so-called “cat bang bang”) is effective, it is not a panacea, and that “if you hear a cat’s voice or feel a cat’s presence after tapping, open the hood and check inside.
