On June 20, Weathernews released Extreme Heat View 2023.
This year, a heat wave is expected mainly in western Japan and Okinawa, with higher-than-normal temperatures nationwide, and the peak of the heat is expected in late July and early August.
The rainy season is expected to end by mid-July in western Japan, the Tokai region, and the Kanto Koshin region. The rainy season is also expected to end in late July in the Tohoku region.
The heat in late July and early August is due to active convection near the Philippines and the strengthening of the Pacific High around western Japan and Okinawa, and if the Tibetan High develops around the same time, the two highs may overlap in the sky, resulting in severe heat. In this case, there are cases of extremely hot days of 35°C or more, and in areas prone to foehn phenomena, the temperature may reach around 40°C.
