Regarding the relationship between ANA, a full-service carrier, and the two LCCs under its umbrella, he explained that ANA will clarify the division of roles between domestic and international short-haul LCC Peach Aviation and international medium-haul LCC Air Japan, and increase market share and revenue through marketing and sales collaboration.

In addition, for the first time in five years, we have formulated a medium- to long-term management strategy. In order to enhance the power of its people and organization, the company will promote ESG management and set forth a new management vision, “A World Filled with Excitement,” as its ideal vision for 2030.

At the beginning of the general meeting, Mr. Shibata discussed consolidated business performance and issues to be addressed, explaining that in FY2022, recovery from the Corona disaster has made significant progress. The international business greatly exceeded the previous year’s results, recovering to 50% of the pre-Corona level in the immediately preceding quarter. He reported that domestic routes recovered to 86% of the pre-Corona level in the last quarter, thanks to the effects of nationwide travel support and a one-way ¥7,000 sale. Net sales increased 687.1 billion yen to 1,070.4 billion yen, and net income increased 233.1 billion yen to 89.4 billion yen, returning to profitability for the first time in three years. Mr. Shibata asked for understanding of the company’s decision not to pay a dividend for the current fiscal year, as the urgent task is to recover and strengthen its financial base.

ANA Holdings held its 78th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders on June 27 at the Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa (Takanawa, Minato-ku, Tokyo). Koji Shibata, President and Representative Director, chaired the meeting, which was attended by 1,040 shareholders.

Excerpts from the Q&A session

There were two items on the agenda for the general meeting: the election of 11 directors (Proposal 1) and the election of two auditors (Proposal 2). Here are excerpts from the main questions from shareholders. There were 14 speakers.

Regarding the question of when the dividend will be reinstated, as mentioned in the business report, the impact of the Corona disaster on the financial situation is significant and retained earnings are still negative. He reiterated his request for a grace period until the situation turns positive and dividends can be resumed.

Regarding the discontinuation of the development of Mitsubishi Aircraft’s domestic jet, Mitsubishi Space Jet, and the liquidation of the company itself, he said, “As the launch customer, I am very disappointed, but I would like to pay tribute to those who worked so hard on the project. He also explained that the company will consider the next generation of equipment again, as the equipment situation is different now than when the order was placed.

Regarding the overall fleet, he said that the Boeing 787-10, selected as the successor to the Boeing 777, is scheduled to be introduced this year for domestic routes, and that he hopes that customers will look forward to it. He also introduced the fleet plan, saying that the company is also preparing to receive a Boeing 777-9.

Regarding the suggestion that a “7,000 yen one-way domestic flight sale for international flights” could be implemented in response to the slow recovery of outbound travel while inbound travel is recovering, the company explained that this was the result of a good marketing strategy, citing international flight sales as the driving force behind the profitable results. He explained that this was the result of the good performance of the marketing strategy. However, as he pointed out, Japan-bound flights have been weak, and he conveyed the importance of striking a balance between inbound and outbound flights, noting that a project to promote outbound flights is underway in cooperation with the public and private sectors.

When asked about the utilization rate of the three FLYING HONU Airbus A380s in his fleet, he said that the third aircraft has not yet been launched, but that he was not yet ready to announce a specific date for the launch of the aircraft on specific routes.

In response to a question about ANA’s response and efforts, citing a case in which another company’s flight failed to meet Fukuoka Airport’s curfew (22:00), ANA pointed out that Fukuoka Airport has a curfew to protect flight routes and the lives of residents living near the airport, and introduced that ANA takes steps to confirm Fukuoka Airport’s landing permission before taking off from the departure airport. ANA is taking steps to confirm landing permission from Fukuoka Airport prior to takeoff from the departure airport. He introduced ANA’s policy of not departing unless landing permission is obtained, its aircrafts are being moved without affecting the previous flight, and its priority on speed even in the airspace above the airport.

Both of the two proposals were approved as proposed.
