On June 19, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Record of Discussions (R/D) with the Paraguayan government (Agencia Espacial del Paraguay (AEP)) in Asunción on the “Space Program Management Project for Socio-Economic Development The signing ceremony was attended by the Paraguayan government and the Paraguayan government’s representative, Mr. Raúl Llau, who gave a presentation on the project and the project’s objectives. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Mr. Raúl Silvano Silvagni, Paraguayan Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, and JICA President Tanaka.
The Paraguayan Space Agency aims to utilize space-related technologies to achieve the country’s social and economic development and the safety of its people. This project, with the cooperation of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), will strengthen the Paraguayan Space Agency’s capacity to utilize space-related technologies and research and development, and conduct experiments to utilize satellite data to solve problems in important areas in Paraguay. This initiative will promote decision-making based on geospatial information, mainly space-related technologies, and strengthen Paraguay’s capacity in the fields of disaster management and agro-pastoralism. Through this project, we will contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Goal 9 (Create the basis for industrial and technological innovation), Goal 13 (Take concrete measures against climate change), and Goal 15 (Protect the wealth of the land).
