Xreal Japan unveils “XREAL Beam” at the XR Comprehensive Exhibition

Posted on 2023-07-02 by Editor in Chief

Xreal Japan exhibited at the 3rd XR Comprehensive Exhibition [Summer], an event held at Tokyo Big Sight from June 28 to 30, and showed off its new XREAL Beam, which is now available for pre-order.

The company sells the XREAL Air (formerly Nreal Air) augmented reality (AR) glasses, and by connecting XREAL Beam to these glasses, users can wirelessly connect to a variety of Miracast-compatible devices.

XREAL Air initially supported only high-end Android smartphones, but has since expanded the number of devices it can connect to by releasing adapters that allow connection to iPhones and gaming devices with HDMI ports.

XREAL Beam is a remote-controlled device developed to eliminate the hassle of such connections, allowing users to zoom in and out and adjust the volume at their fingertips. It also has a built-in 4870mAh battery to reduce power consumption of the connected device.

It has two USB-C ports on the bottom of the unit, one of which can be connected to XREAL Air and the other to a smartphone, PC, or game console to reduce display delay. The price for the general public is 16,980 yen, but the pre-order price is 15,980 yen.

At the presentation held on the 28th, Joshua Yeo, Vice President of Xreal and Representative Director of Xreal Japan, said, “When we launched the Air, we asked users what functions they would like to see added, and we received many requests for five functions,” and explained that XREAL Beam is a device that can respond to such requests. XREAL Beam is a device that can respond to those requests.

XREAL Beam has three display modes: a display method that fixes the screen in a specific position, a display method in which the screen follows the direction in which you shake your head, and a side screen that displays a small screen in the upper left corner without obstructing your view, and you can switch modes using the red button on the left side.

The round cursor button in the upper center of the unit can be used to zoom in or out, and the decision button is located in the center of the cursor, with the back button below it. In addition, there is a volume control button on the right side and a power button on the upper right side.

The company has released “Nebula for Mac” and “Nebula for Windows” as beta versions, which connect to a PC to realize a 3-screen multi-screen display within the glass, but at present, XREAL Beam supports only one screen.

Although the specifications of XREAL Beam do not claim to be Miracast-compatible, the connected device will be connected using the Miracast function. According to the person in charge, XREAL Beam is equipped with Android, and the possibility of wireless 3-screen display support has not been ruled out, so we look forward to future development.
