On July 1, JAL held a ceremony in front of the departure gate at Haneda Airport to commemorate the 10th anniversary of its Helsinki service.

JAL’s Helsinki route began code-sharing with Finnair on December 15, 2005; JAL opened its own Narita – Helsinki route on July 1, 2013, and transferred the route to Haneda on March 29, 2020, following the expansion of Haneda Airport’s arrival and departure slots. However, due to the Corona disaster, the route was operated as a cargo flight for approximately three months, and did not actually begin carrying passengers until July 1, 2012.

The aircraft is a Boeing 787-9 with 239 seats, including 28 business class seats.

Kumiko Saito, Executive Officer and General Manager of JAL’s Tokyo Airport Branch, took the stage at the ceremony and emphasized the ease of use of Helsinki Vantaa Airport, which is the hub airport for Finnair, a joint venture partner, saying, “It is very convenient to freely combine JAL and Finnair flights to access Europe.

The guest of honor, Koichi Numata, Japan Representative of the Finnish National Tourist Board, also mentioned that tent saunas and moloks are popular in Japan, and introduced that it is refreshing and comfortable in Finland at this time of year, and that local people enjoy saunas and moloks in summer houses as a standard feature of the country.

On the day of the tour, there was an exhibition in front of the gate that included a tent sauna, a moluk, and other items that allowed visitors to get a taste of Finnish culture. W-PIT, a cross-departmental team using the in-house venture system, is developing dynamic packages, sauna goods, Web media, and other products.

In keeping with this connection, W-PIT DDD, a dance team from W-PIT, performed at the ceremony, welcoming the heat wave masters of Loulou and their guests. The ceremony was enlivened by the powerful performance of the heat wave master wielding a large towel.
