On July 6, the Tourism Expo Japan Promotion Office held a press conference at Grand Cube Osaka (Nakanoshima, Osaka) to outline Tourism Expo Japan 2023 Osaka-Kansai, one of the world’s largest travel events.
The exhibition will run for four days from October 26 to 29, with the first two days being industry days and the second half being open to the public. The venue is INTEX Osaka (1-5-102 Nanko-Kita, Suminoe-ku, Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture), and the sponsors are the Japan Tourism Organization (JTA), the Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA), and the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO).
In introducing the outline of the event on behalf of the organizers, JATA Chairman Hiroyuki Takahashi noted that full-scale international exchange had returned after the Corona disaster, and added that Osaka would be the first time in four years that the event would be held in the post-Corona era. We hope that visitors will experience the evolution of tourism at the venue,” he said. He also noted that the Osaka-Kansai Expo is scheduled to be held in 2025, and he hopes that the event will be a precursor to that event.
The theme of the event is “OPEN THE DOOR TO THE FUTURE, a festival of travel where you can meet the future. The key visual was created using the motif of “doors of various shades” to represent the many different ways to enter and enjoy travel, and expresses the elation of opening the door and embarking on a journey. The finished product emphasizes the main character at the center of the journey.
The actual number of visitors for the 2019 event was 151,099, and the target for this year’s event was set at 150,000 visitors (48,000 on industry days and 102,000 on general days), the same as last time. The target for the number of exhibitor booths is 1,245, which has already been filled. The target for the number of business meetings is 8,000 or more.
Admission is free on industry days (pre-registration required), 800 yen in advance on general days (pre-registration required), and 1,300 yen at the door. Admission had previously been free for junior high and high school students upon presentation of a student ID card, but from this year, admission is also free for students and vocational school students.
Mr. Takahashi pointed out that the previous Tokyo event was a hybrid event with the new Corona still having a strong impact, and he suggested that “people have become hungry for information over the past three years. He suggested that this was a sufficiently achievable goal.
Themed exhibits and cooperation with ministries and agencies were introduced by Mr. Hitoshi Saimei, President of JETRO. He also explained that adventure tourism, which will be the focus of the World Summit in Hokkaido in September, will be promoted as a new form of travel that allows visitors to experience culture and nature through activities. He also explained that adventure tourism, which will host the World Summit in Hokkaido in September, will be promoted as a new form of travel that allows visitors to experience culture and nature through activities. He also said that international cruises, which had long stayed in port in Japan due to Corona, “have resumed in March, but are far from where they were before Corona,” and will promote the attractiveness and safety of their services.
Mr. Katsumi Endo, Director of JNTO, explained about “VISIT JAPAN Travel & MICE Mart 2023” (VJTM & VJMM2023). He expressed hope that this is one of the largest inbound-specific business meetings in Japan, bringing together domestic local governments, DMOs, travel agencies, and lodging facilities with overseas travel agencies, and that it will be the first time in four years that the event will be held in a completely face-to-face format.
