WeatherNews app offers free “Heat Stroke Radar” feature that displays heat stroke risk for the next 6 hours.

Posted on 2023-07-16 by Editor in Chief

Weathernews has made free of charge forecasts up to six hours ahead for its Heat Radar, which is available within the Weathernews weather app (Android/iOS version).

In addition to the heat index (WBGT) determined by the Environment Agency and the Japan Meteorological Agency, this function allows users to check the “heat stroke risk level,” which is calculated independently by taking into account the time of year and areas prone to heat stroke. The risk of heat stroke is color-coded in five levels (Caution, Warning, Severe Warning, Dangerous, and Extremely Dangerous) and displayed on a high-resolution 250m mesh map for up to 24 hours from the present time.

To view the map, start the application, tap the “Radar” icon at the bottom, and select “Heat Stroke”. By zooming in and out of the map, you can grasp the risk of heat stroke at home, outside, work, and on the route you travel. The “Heat Stroke Information” section of the app also provides hourly and weekly heat stroke forecasts for the next 48 hours, and the heat stroke risk calculated based on WBGT for each 1 km mesh can be checked.
