The shape of the first G-SHOCK model sold by Casio Computer Co. was registered as a three-dimensional trademark by the Japan Patent Office on June 26.
This is the first case for a Japanese watch manufacturer to have the shape of a wristwatch itself registered as a three-dimensional trademark, without a logo or letters.
Since the first G-SHOCK model, the shock-resistant DW-5000C, was launched in 1983, G-SHOCK has now been sold in more than 140 countries and shipped more than 140 million units in total.
The fact that the watch has maintained the same shape for 40 years since its launch, while evolving its functions and structure, has been recognized by people as a G-Shock just by looking at the form, leading to the registration of the watch.
