KDDI and Okinawa Cellular will begin offering overseas roaming connections in their provided communication plan povo2.0. Voice calls and SMS will be available from July 20, and data communications from August 1, and will be available to all users by August 9.
More than 160 countries and regions are covered by this service, which allows users to make voice calls and SMS using the same phone number they use in Japan. Also, if you set up and purchase a plan that is set up for each destination and data traffic, you can use data communications without the need to rent a Wi-Fi router or sign a contract with a local carrier.
When making/sending voice calls or SMS in the destination country, enter the destination in the format “(+) – (country code) – (number without the leading 0)” (*Not necessary for incoming/outgoing calls). When using data communication, a separate overseas plan must be purchased, and a list of toppings is displayed when the “Overseas” tab of the povo2.0 application is selected. Toppings can be purchased even when there is no Wi-Fi environment in the destination country, and use can begin immediately after purchase. You can also purchase toppings in advance, and within 30 days, the plan will automatically switch to the purchased plan upon arrival in the destination country.
