Special Lectures
As JICA Chairs in Mongolia, Dr. Gaku Funabashi (Associate Professor at International University of Mongolia and JICA International Cooperation Specialist) and Dr. Shintaro Nakamura (JICA International Cooperation Specialist) gave lectures at the National University of Mongolia (NUM) on May 15 and 29, respectively, on “Industrial Development and Japanese Management in Japan” and “Social and Economic Transition and Social Security: Implications of Japanese Experience. Social and Economic Transition and Social Security: Implications of Japan’s Experience” on the 29th. The lectures were a great success, with a total of about 150 participants, including President Dendev Badarchi of NUM, Japanese Ambassador to Mongolia Hiroyuki Kobayashi, JICA Mongolia Office Director Shinichi Tanaka, and students and faculty from NUM.
The JICA chair in Mongolia has given five lectures to national universities from December 2021 to May 2022, and on November 1, 2022, JICA President Akihiko Tanaka, who visited Mongolia to attend the 25th anniversary ceremony of the Mongolia Office, gave a special lecture on “Japan after the Cold War. The University of Mongolia is currently working with JICA. We are currently in discussions with the University to continue the JICA Chair as a credit-accredited course after September 2023. The lecture was held with the aim of raising awareness of the JICA Chair within the university and increasing interest in Japan’s development experience among the young people who will be responsible for Mongolia’s development, prior to the accreditation of the course for academic credits.

Lecture by Associate Professor Gaku Funabashi, International University of Japan Associate Professor Gaku Funabashi of International University of Japan, who is also active as an international cooperation specialist in the field of private sector development, gave a lecture on the international competitiveness of Japanese industries and the factors that have allowed them to develop in the world from the perspective of Japanese-style management characteristics. He pointed out the importance of “information sharing” as one of the factors that create competitiveness, and delivered a powerful message to the students: “In Mongolia, which is promoting industrial diversification, I hope that Mongolian industries will develop in the future by retaining the Mongolian way of organizational management, while sharing information and integrating various expertise and ideas. He conveyed a strong message to the students.
