Hoshino Resort to Open Onsen Ryokan “Kai” in Akiu Onsen, Miyagi Prefecture, in Spring 2024

Posted on 2023-08-01 by Editor in Chief

Hoshino Resort will open “Kai Akiu” (1 Yumoto Hirakura, Akiu-cho, Taihaku-ku, Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture) in Akiu Onsen, Miyagi Prefecture, in spring 2024.

The company’s nationwide brand of onsen ryokan, “Kai”, has entered Miyagi Prefecture for the first time. This is the second project of “Hoshino Resort Tourism Revitalization Investment Limited Partnership,” an investment fund with Lisa Partners.

The Akiu Onsen is one of the “Three Famous Hot Springs of Oshu” and is also called “Natori no Goyu” (Natori’s Hot Spring), a hot spring resort with a long history where the Emperor and the feudal lord Date Masamune are said to have enjoyed bathing. The newly opened “Kai Akiu” faces the Natori River, which flows through Akiu Great Falls and the Leidakyo Gorge, and guests can enjoy a footbath on the terrace while feeling the sound of the mountain stream and the breeze with all five senses. The five-story building consists of a main building and an annex, the Yugoya, with a total of 49 guest rooms.
