NEXCO East Japan to begin ground repairs after August 2 for sinking accident caused by Gaikan highway tunnel construction.

Posted on 2023-08-01 by Editor in Chief

NEXCO East Japan held a regular press conference at its headquarters in Kasumigaseki on July 26. In attendance were Fumihiko Yuki, President and Representative Director; Shigeki Yagi, General Manager of the Administration Business Division; and Hideo Yoshimi, General Manager of the Service Area and New Business Division.

At the beginning of his presentation, he reported on the most recent situation regarding the cave-in accident that occurred on October 18, 2020 near Higashitsutsujigaoka 2-chome, Chofu City, as a result of shield machine construction on the Outer Ring Road (Tokyo Gaikaku Ring Road).

The company has been holding site tours on June 9-12 and an open house and opinion exchange session on June 16-17 for local residents and others. The company explained that the ground repair work, which has already been announced in public documents as “starting from the areas where house demolition has been completed,” will begin after August 2. They will continue to inform the public about the results of the monitoring through local bulletin boards and other means. The construction period is approximately two years.
