Fukaya City, Saitama Prefecture, will renovate the birthplace of Eiichi Shibusawa, “Naka-no-ie” (247-1 Kuroarishima, Fukaya City, Saitama Prefecture) on a large scale and reopen it on August 10, 2012.
Renovation work has been underway since 2019, including seismic reinforcement and restoration of the tiled roof and walls down to the smallest detail. In conjunction with the reopening, the main indoor area, which was previously only accessible from the outside, is now open to visitors. Visitors can see the upper floor and the second floor, which was used as a silkworm room at the time.
In the Shibusawa Eiichi Android Theater, an 80-year-old Shibusawa Eiichi android will talk about Eiichi’s childhood, his memories, and events in Paris, France.
In addition, one of the remains under the floor of the main building, “the brick kamado site,” which was newly discovered during this construction, will be preserved in its current state and permanently exhibited. The “made by Kamishiki-kemae” stamp on the brick is an indication that it was made by Nippon Brick Manufacturing Company, which was established by Eiichi.
In addition, some of the exhibits from the “Shibusawa Eiichi Seiten wo Sukuke Fukaya Taiga Drama Kan” will be on display in the main building. A set that reproduces the “middle house” in the drama will be on display, as well as costumes and props used in the filming of the play.
Roof tiles with the names of the four actors in the 2021 historical drama “Seiten wo Sukeruke” are actually used on the roof of the main building, and although the actual tiles cannot be seen, photo panels will be created and displayed in the future.
