Yahoo! Weather (Android version) and the “Rain Cloud Radar” of the “Yahoo! Weather/Disaster” weather forecast application have added a function that shows the presence and transition of linear precipitation zones and other occurrences (the iOS version will be added in August).
A linear precipitation zone is a phenomenon that brings torrential rainfall over a wide area. In June and July, this phenomenon occurred mainly in the Tokai region and northern Kyushu, causing extensive damage.
To help prevent disaster, we developed a function that displays an ellipse of the precipitation area of a linear precipitation zone on the “Rain Cloud Radar” based on data released by the Japan Meteorological Agency. When an outbreak is underway, an alert message is displayed on the screen so that information can be checked immediately.
According to data released by the Japan Meteorological Agency, the frequency of heavy rainfall has roughly doubled in the last 10 years compared to around 1980, and early preparations are required, especially in the coming flood season.
