Fuji, with crowds peaking from August 11-14, increasing the risk of accidents.

Yamanashi Prefecture is calling for safe climbing of Mt. Fuji as the peak of the summer mountain season approaches.

This year, in addition to the deregulation of the new Corona, the 10th anniversary of the registration of Mt. Fuji as a World Heritage Site is expected to attract many climbers from Japan and abroad. In particular, crowds are expected to peak between August 11, “Mountain Day,” and August 14, with 63,778 climbers as of July 30, an increase of approximately 17% from 2019 and more than double the number of climbers compared to last year.

Fuji, climbers cannot walk at their own pace, and the risk of falling or slipping increases, which can lead to distress. In addition, “bullet climbers” who do not stay overnight at a lodge at the fifth station but instead spend the night all the way to the summit of Mt. The number of such accidents may make it more time-consuming than usual to respond to rescue calls.

For safe and comfortable mountain climbing, it is necessary to be well-equipped and have a relaxed plan. In cooperation with the police, Yamanashi Prefecture will take measures to prevent accidents, such as temporary traffic restrictions on busy days and during busy times.
