Various events are held all over the country, but it is difficult to see the true appeal of these events just from their websites and flyers. In this section, we will explore the charms of these events through interviews with the “people in the middle. This time, we interviewed Mr. Motofumi Takahashi, Public Relations Manager of the Okada Museum of Art in Hakone, Kanagawa Prefecture.
–Please give us an overview of your facilities and services.
Mr. Takahashi:The museum is located in Kowakudani, Hakone, and with five floors and an exhibition area of approximately 5,000 m2, it is one of the largest in Hakone. Until December 10, the museum is currently holding “10th Anniversary Exhibition Part 2: Utamaro and Hokusai”. The museum also features a garden that changes with the seasons, a restaurant called “Kaika-tei,” a 100% spring-fed footbath cafe, and other ancillary facilities.
–Are there any sights or experiences that you would recommend that we can’t find anywhere else?
Mr. Takahashi:You can enjoy both art and Hakone’s abundant nature at the same time at the museum, and I recommend the 100% spring-fed footbath café where you can take a bath while viewing the “Kaze Toki,” a large mural painting of the Wind and Thunder Gods. The large mural painting is 12 meters long and 30 meters wide, and many visitors are amazed at its power. Visitors can enjoy a relaxing moment with soft ice cream made from locally produced milk, coffee, oshiruko (sweet red-bean soup), beer, and other sweet treats and beverages.
–Please let us know of any recent events.
Mr. Takahashi:In August, the museum is holding its annual summer events, “Okada Museum of Art Yoga” and “Okada Museum of Art Coloring Contest. The yoga class is held in the clear early morning air in front of the large mural paintings. It is a popular event with many repeat visitors. In the “Coloring Contest,” coloring books with motifs of the exhibited works are available for children and adults, and visitors can actually enjoy coloring them in the museum. The best works will receive gorgeous prizes.
–Finally, any last words for our readers?
Mr. Takahashi:Thanks to your support, our museum will celebrate its 10th anniversary this fall. To commemorate this milestone and express our gratitude to all of you, we are offering a “Birthday Pair Special Introductory Offer” until December 10. You and one companion will receive free admission to the museum on your birthday, so please spend your special day at the museum. Please check our website for details of the “Special Birthday Pair Invitation” and the latest information on exhibitions and events. We look forward to seeing you at the museum.
