The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Record of Discussions (R/D) with the Government of Mongolia on August 15 in Ulaanbaatar regarding the technical cooperation project, “Project for Enhancing Tax Administration Capacity Using Big Data.
Mongolia has a fragile fiscal base because its economy is greatly influenced by external factors such as international market prices of resources. In order to strengthen this fragile financial base, the challenges are to secure stable financial revenues and to strengthen tax administration.
This project aims to further strengthen the taxation capacity of the Mongolian National Tax Administration (MNTA) by introducing an efficient tax administration process through the development of an analytical model using big data to identify taxpayers at high risk of underreporting, etc. This project will contribute to improving Mongolia’s tax compliance (voluntary and proper fulfillment of tax obligations by taxpayers) through upgrading and streamlining tax administration, and will contribute to SDG Goals 8 (both job satisfaction and economic growth), 10 (eliminate inequality among people and countries), and 17 (achieve the goals through partnership). ).
