Travel announces “Summer Travel Trends for 2023. The keywords are “feeling like traveling abroad” and “tired of the heat wave.

Posted on 2023-08-16 by Editor in Chief

Travel has released its “Summer Travel Trends for 2023,” an analysis of domestic tour travel bookings for August and September.

Compared to the same period in 2019 before the corona, both the number of travel days and unit cost per booking increased, with a decrease in one-night trips and an increase of approximately 10% in two or more nights, and an increase of approximately 30% in the cost per trip. As factors, the change in travel days can be attributed to a change in mindset toward multi-night trips following the shift of new coronavirus infection to category 5, while the increase in travel costs can be attributed to price increases due to a recovery in demand for travel, including inbound travel.

On the other hand, many people are holding off on overseas travel, saying that the weak yen has made overseas travel financially difficult, and there is a growing interest in travel that feels like overseas travel in Japan, such as ocean-view rooms and lodgings with pools and spas that offer the atmosphere of overseas resorts. For more details, see the “Okinawa Main Island x Lodging that Feels Like Traveling Overseas” feature on Yahoo!

In addition, Tokyo’s heat wave has broken the record for the hottest day in July, and with the heat continuing throughout the country, there is a growing interest in “okomori” trips to summer resorts and quiet lodges to relax and relieve fatigue while enjoying hot springs and gourmet food. Travel features “Hokkaido Hotels Boasting Onsen (Hot Springs),” “Summer Resorts in the Tokyo Suburbs,” and “Secluded Inns with 10 or Fewer Guest Rooms.
