On August 26, Hilton Japan, Korea, and Micronesia held the grand opening of Hilton Okinawa Miyakojima Resort (550-7 Hirara Kugai, Miyakojima City, Okinawa Prefecture), its first foray into the remote islands of Japan.
The first beach resort hotel developed by Mitsubishi Estate and Kajima Corporation, it is located in the Tulliver area surrounded by coral reefs and mangrove forests, about 15 minutes from Miyako Airport by car and 25 minutes from Shimojijima Airport.
There are 329 guest rooms, mostly twin rooms. All rooms have private balconies overlooking the Irabu Bridge and the ocean. Miyako Sunset Beach, which stretches right in front of the hotel, can be accessed directly from the premises, allowing guests to enjoy the Miyako blue ocean through a variety of activities such as SUP and snorkeling.
In addition, the restaurant offers a breakfast buffet featuring a variety of island ingredients and an Italian course dinner. There is also a rooftop bar where guests can sip original cocktails while enjoying the beautiful sunset view.
After a soft opening period of about two months, the facilities and services within the hotel, such as the chapel and banquet halls, are finally in full operation.
A grand opening ceremony and party were held on the same day, inviting people from inside and outside the city. A total of 12 people attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony, including Mr. Timothy Soper, representative of Hilton Japan, Korea, and Micronesia, and Mr. Kazuyuki Zakimi, Mayor of Miyakojima City, who attended the ceremony as a guest of honor.
The Hilton Okinawa Miyakojima Resort is the sixth hotel to open in Okinawa Prefecture. General Manager Seiji Tanamachi commented on the appeal of the resort, “The location is simply spectacular. I think it is the most powerful weapon among all Hilton hotels.
The hotel also offers “sophisticated rooms and a wide variety of activities. As you can see, we have three outdoor and two indoor pools for families, adults, and children, as well as a kids’ club, spa, fitness center, and a variety of other facilities to accommodate all types of guests. This is the strength of the Hilton Okinawa Miyakojima Resort,” he appealed.
As a hotel that can contribute to Miyako Island, he says, “In the future, I would like to work together with the residents of the island to make Miyako Island more vibrant as a whole by inviting not only domestic and international tourists, but also islanders to use our facilities.
Speaking at the party, Mayor Zakimi said of incoming tourists to Miyako Island, “Since the completion of the Irabu Bridge, the tourism industry has grown steadily, reaching 1 million visitors in FY2018. Although severely affected by the Corona disaster, it has shown a recovery since last fiscal year, and the number of tourists from April to July 2023 has reached record highs every month. The situation is far beyond what it was before the Corona,” he explained.
In light of this, he congratulated Miyakojima City, saying, “With the gradual return of inbound tourism, Miyakojima City is very happy to see the opening of the Hilton, which has many fans not only in Japan but throughout the world.
To commemorate the opening, Hilton Okinawa Miyakojima Resort is offering a one-day visitor plan through September 30 that allows non-guests to use the pool and lunch buffet. Miyakojima residents can save even more money.
The price for pool only is 7,000 yen for adults (3,500 yen for citizens) and 3,500 yen for children (1,750 yen for citizens). The price for pool & lunch buffet is 8,800 yen for adults (4,800 yen for citizens) and 4,400 yen for children (2,400 yen for citizens). Reservations can be made through the official website.
