On Thursday, August 24, 2023, Foreign Minister Hayashi, together with the Ambassadors of six countries (Canada, Ghana, Brazil, Nepal, Vietnam, and Singapore), visited the Komagane JOCV Training Center as part of the Nagano Prefecture project of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ “Bringing Local Communities to the World” and met with JICA overseas They met with JOCV candidates who will participate in training at the Komagane JOCV training center.

Upon arrival at the training center, Foreign Minister Hayashi and the ambassadors of each country were welcomed by President Tanaka and given a tour of the center by Training Director Kobayashi Komagane.
At the round-table meeting after the visit, Foreign Minister Hayashi gave words of encouragement to the JICA Overseas Cooperation Volunteers candidates for the second round in 2023. After that, the candidates were divided into groups for each of the countries to which they will be sent, and they introduced themselves and their aspirations for their activities in the country to which they will be assigned. The prospective members had a lively discussion with Foreign Minister Hayashi in Japanese, and with the Ambassadors in English and Portuguese.

A prospective member said, “It was a sobering experience to receive words of encouragement from the Minister of Foreign Affairs. I was very moved. It was a valuable experience to be able to talk directly with the Foreign Minister and the ambassadors of various countries, and it made me feel even more aware of my mission as a member of the Japan Cooperation Volunteer Corps. They seemed to have reaffirmed their awareness of their participation in national projects. One of the candidates scheduled to be dispatched to Brazil said, “I was thrilled to speak with the Brazilian Ambassador in Portuguese. It was a valuable opportunity to motivate the prospective members to prepare for their deployment to Brazil.
The JICA Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV) candidates for the second round of training in FY2023 who are participating in the pre-deployment training will complete their training in September and will be deployed to their respective countries of assignment in October.
