WILLER EXPRESS will introduce a new type of car equipped with the new 3-row seat “DOME” on its night service between Tokyo and Nagoya. The service will begin on October 6.
DOME has a shell-shaped partition that does not affect the seats behind it when the backrest is folded down, and reclines up to 130 degrees. There is a footrest space in the front seat, and by pulling up the foldable legrests around the calves, passengers can assume a relaxed sleeping position even during long rides.
In addition to a movable pillow whose position can be adjusted up and down, the seat is equipped with a new movable lumbar pad to provide comfort more suited to the body shape. The seats are upholstered in beige leather, which is comfortable to the touch and contributes to a sense of luxury.
Another feature of DOME is its large canopy, similar to that of the new four-row “Prime,” which was introduced in April. The canopy can be pulled down over the head to form a hood that completely covers the shoulders, thus meeting the needs of passengers who do not want to be seen sleeping or with their makeup removed.
A smartphone holder is installed inside the canopy, as on the Prime (with further improvements to the mounting position). This allows users to operate their smartphones or watch videos while driving at night without worrying about light leakage to the surroundings.
When actually sitting down, the shell partition provides a very high sense of envelopment and a good sound insulation effect. When the backrest is rolled down and the leg rests are raised to a sleeping position, the head is positioned deeper in the shell, which is like an “immersive sleep mode”.
Moreover, when the canopy is lowered, the seat provides additional sound insulation and dimness, which is just what is needed on an overnight bus to “arrive at the destination while you are sleeping. Above all, it is a comfort to be able to tilt the backrest down as much as you like without worrying about the back of the bus.
Fares vary for independent seats and two-seat rows, starting at 7,400 yen for independent seats and 6,900 yen for two-seat rows. To commemorate the start of DOME-equipped car service, a trial plan for independent seats and two-seat rows will be offered for 5,000 yen and 4,500 yen, respectively. The period is from October 6 to November 30 (for departures).
The number of seats per car is 26, not a multiple of 3 because there is an emergency door near the very end, and the seat immediately behind it (seat number 9C) has a very spacious surrounding area. If you don’t mind being at the very end of the train, this is a good seat for you.
The first two DOME-equipped vehicles will be launched on October 6, with two more to follow by the end of the year. They will begin operating in the Tokyo-Nagoya area, and will soon begin operating in the Tokyo-Osaka area.
